“Because weddings are cool, but marriage is even cooler.”
I had never been more excited for anything in my life. With my best friend still sleeping on the floor next to my bed, I was wide awake wondering if 6am was an acceptable time to get up. There wasn’t one moment of this day I wasn’t looking forward to—as if each new hour was wrapped with a perfect light pink bow just waiting to be opened. Today I was going to wear that beautiful dress I’d bought months ago. It was the day I would put on the earrings my mom wore on her wedding day. My dad would cry in his black tuxedo & navy blue tie. And, let us not forget, my Pinterest board would finally become a reality. But more than any of this, I could not wait to get married—to be married. Sure, I was excited for my dad to walk me down the aisle of the church I’d grown up in, but, saying “I do” to the man waiting for me at the end of it mattered most.
Ryan and I celebrate two years of marriage today. Looking back, there is nothing I would change about our “day one”—our wedding day was absoultely perfect! But I’ll be the first to admit, in the 729 days that have followed, our marriage has proven to be far from that. We’ve had our fair share of challenges paired with lots of growing pains, but that vow I made two years ago will remain one of the best decisions of my life. I adore being married to Ryan & whether it’s an anniversary or any other day of the year, I will chose to celebrate with a thankful heart. We might not always get it right, but there is no one I’d rather be wrong with.
Today I am also thankful for my amazingly talented friends. They let me wear my wedding dress again (even though I could barely breathe) & graciously documented what two years of marriage looks like. Brooke & Sharon—you have blessed us with these images. Thank you. Special shout out to Le Fleur Floral Designs in Washington, IL for adding color & life to our shoot.
